This past spring, our nation lost a civil rights veteran and US Congressman in John Lewis. One of the speakers at his nationally televised funeral service was the Reverend James Lawson from the Class of 1946. Rev. Recent alumni passings of note: Robert Heitger '38 Robert was part of one of Massillon's longest, continuous family owned businesses with the Heitger Funeral Services. He served in World War 2 and was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, and a Purple Heart for his efforts. The passing of the following alumni has been reported to the Alumni Association office: John Nicewander '33 John was one of our oldest alums at age 102. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's. He attempted, with his son's assistance, to contact all his surviving classmates for a "paper reunion" while in his early 90's.
