We highlighted last year that we had a drum major here at WHS who a had been a fan favorite and that he had transferred to here from Canton McKinley to be our drum major for his junior and senior years. Well now Keaton Gibbs (’19) has been accepted into The Ohio State University Marching Band’s vaunted “D-Row” which serves as a training spot for possible future band drum majors. We wish Keaton all the best, and no pressure, just being accepted for this is quite an honor itself.
Just six years back, another Massillon grad, Dan McCullough (’14) was also a member of “D-Row” and faced some tough competition. Although Dan did not make it as the drum major, he did pick up the tuba and two years later not once, but twice got to “Dot the i”
Myron McKelvey ’33 was the only WHS band grad to be The Ohio State band’s drum major back in 1937.
