We’re excited to feature Alyssa Stayer (Braun), WHS Class of 2015, in this week’s Alumni Spotlight! From Swing Band to achieving her Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Alyssa’s journey shows the power of hard work, perseverance, and a little bit of heart.

Q: What year did you graduate from Massillon Washington High School?
A: I graduated in 2015.
Q: What activities, clubs, or sports were you involved in during your time at WHS?
A: I was involved in Swing Band, Jazz Band, Pep Club, and NHS.
A: I was involved in Swing Band, Jazz Band, Pep Club, and NHS.
Q: What is one of your favorite memories from your high school years?
A: Singing the Alma Mater with the Swing Band every week before football games is definitely one of my favorite memories!
Q: What have you gone on to achieve since graduation (career, education, military service, community involvement, etc.)?
A: After high school, I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in 2019, my Master of Science in Education in 2021, and my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2025. It took me three attempts to get accepted into physical therapy school, but the perseverance was worth it! During my education, I had the chance to complete clinical rotations in unique settings such as home care and the Veterans Affairs clinic, which were truly eye-opening experiences. On a personal note, I recently got married in November 2025 to my amazing husband, who supported me through all my studies and licensure exam preparation. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without his support and grace.
Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of finally passing my licensure exam after missing it by just one question on my first attempt. I now have a job in my dream career and am excited to start building a life with my husband!
Q: How did your time at Massillon help prepare you for life after high school?
A: Participating in band taught me so much about the real world—punctuality matters, and to achieve your goals, you have to put in the work and earn it. The perseverance I learned back then has been tested recently, and that foundation has helped me keep going through challenges.
Q: What advice would you give to current Tigers?
A: Don’t let circumstances or adversity hold you back. If there’s something you want to achieve, with enough work and determination, you can make it happen! That said, enjoy high school and make the most of these special years in your life.
