Washington High School
Massillon, Ohio

We’re excited to launch a brand-new series where we highlight the dedicated members of the Washington High School Alumni Association Board! Each week, we’ll feature one of our board members so you can get to know the people working behind the scenes to keep Tiger pride strong.

We’re starting off with our incredible President, Nancy Jobe!

Graduation Year and Activities:

I graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1981. Throughout my years at WHS, I was actively involved in a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs. My musical experiences included playing trombone in the Tiger Swing Band under the leadership of Jim Bilingley and Ric Tissot, as well as participating in the Concert Band, which encompassed all three grade levels. I was also a member of the Jazz Ensemble and sang in the Choir directed by Karen Bushman Villilo, along with the Woman’s Chorus.

In addition to my musical pursuits, I took part in several other student organizations, including the Pep Club and Drama Club. These experiences allowed me to connect with classmates, develop new skills, and create lasting memories during my time at Washington High School.

Inspiration to Join the Board:

After dedicating 30 years to a career in Children Services, I decided to retire and sought out a fun part-time job to stay engaged and active in the community. This led me to begin working at the Massillon Museum, where I took on the role of Events Coordinator. During my time there, I had the opportunity to work alongside Bob Wenzel, who was serving as the president of the WHS Alumni Association.

Bob and I had known each other from my time in the Tiger Swing Band, where he was the band’s announcer. After collaborating on museum projects, Bob asked if I would be interested in joining the Alumni Association board—and in May 2018, I officially became a member!

Role on the Board:

Currently, I serve as President of the Board of Trustees, and I’ve just started my third year in this role. Early on, I recognized the importance of establishing a strategic plan to guide the board over the next three years. Through several planning meetings, we focused on three key areas: Technology, Recruitment/Branding/Outreach, and Fundraising.

We’ve made steady progress—upgrading our computer systems, enhancing our website, improving our recruitment process, and adding a Social Media & Communications Coordinator position. We’ve also begun selling alumni logo tee shirts and decals at outreach events and are working to expand online sales. These efforts, along with membership fees, help fund our initiatives like providing flowers and tiaras for the Homecoming Court and distributing our bi-annual newsletter.

Favorite Memory or Fun Fact:

My favorite memories in high school are mostly musical! I had the opportunity to perform in the Messiah, travel with the Jazz Ensemble to places like Michigan and New York City, and perform with the Swing Band at NFL games, parades, and even in England.

But one moment stands above the rest—standing on the field before a packed Massillon Stadium for the Massillon/McKinley game, playing “Tiger Rag,” “Carry On,” and the alma mater for the last time. That feeling is something I’ll never forget. The friendships I made in band and choir remain close and meaningful to this day.

Advice for Students and Alumni:

To current students—I encourage you to get involved! Join clubs, sports, or organizations that match your interests. You’ll gain valuable life skills, make lifelong friends, and make your high school experience even more memorable.

To fellow alumni—I invite you to become a member of the WHS Alumni Association! You don’t need to live in Massillon to join—many members live out of state. Your annual $10 tax-deductible donation helps us continue supporting the Tiger community.

Board Experience:

I’ve truly enjoyed my years on the board. Serving as president has allowed me to apply my leadership and communication skills while collaborating with a dedicated team that brings diverse ideas and energy to the table.

Our board’s commitment keeps us moving forward toward our mission and strategic goals. I’m excited to continue growing our outreach and welcoming even more Tiger alumni to the WHSAA family! ????

Thank you, Nancy, for your leadership and dedication to the WHS Alumni Association!
