Washington High School
Massillon, Ohio

From the band room and choir risers at WHS to leading as a school principal today, Erica Young-Hill has shown what it means to carry her Tiger pride into every stage of life!

We asked Erica to share her journey from her Massillon days to today—here’s what she had to say:

Q: What year did you graduate from Massillon Washington High School?

A: Class of 2009!

Q: What activities, clubs, or sports were you involved in during your time at WHS?

A: I was in band and choir and loved the swing band, basketball band, and pit orchestra! I also was a part of journalism and wrote for the Hi-Times and the literary magazine The Quill, and participated in French Club.

Q: What is one of your favorite memories from your high school years?

A: I had a lot of fantastic memories, but my favorite one was participating in the Miss Massillonian assembly! I discussed that my favorite hobby in elementary school was nap time and the crowd went wild!

Q: What have you gone on to achieve since graduation?

A: After high school, I entered the world of education! I was a teacher for 6 years, an assistant principal for 6 years, and I am now in my first year as a school principal.

Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

A: I am most proud of earning my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, obtaining my principal licensure, and beginning my first year as a principal for the 2025–26 school year!

Q: How did your time at Massillon help prepare you for life after high school?

A: My time at Massillon prepared me to develop my leadership and communication skills! I was a squad leader in swing band, section leader in choir, and an active journalist. All of those opportunities played a part in making me the educator I am today!

Q: What advice would you give to current Tigers?

A: High school is what you make it! I had a great time! I joined every club I could, made all types of friends, and still have fond memories to this day!

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share with fellow alumni?

A: I’m the Recording Secretary for the Washington High School Alumni Association! It’s been a great way to connect with fellow alumni members and give back to my community!

Thank you, Erica, for your dedication to education and your continued service to our alumni community. We are so proud to call you a Tiger Alumni!
